Waikato 2020 is about to merge to be part of an exciting new development to provide community and voluntary organisations with better information and communication technology (ICT) services.

 

On October 1, 2009, Waikato 2020 Communications Trust is to merge with Waikato Community Business Services Ltd, a limited liability company with charitable status. The following services formerly provided by Waikato 2020 will continue to be available:

 • Community on-line – Waikato Community Network (Wainet) hosting

• Website development and initial support – WordPress and Moodle

• Education/information to support the effective use of internet tools – e-Engage Your Community conferences and NZ Webguide (in association with the Webguide Partnership)

• Hardware recycling – Hamilton eDay

 

These services will be enhanced by the extra services offered at community rates by the new company (Waikato Community Business Services Ltd) including:

IT support service = maintaining the technology being used each day and advising on development

• Assessment and advice about software and hardware that will suit the organisation’s needs • Advice on where to go for quotes • Assessment of quotes including prices and purchase options • Possible discount options • Maintenance of and minor repairs to computers • Maintenance of server and network • Help with computer link to printer, email and other glitches • Suggestions for training required or advised

Service level agreement = risk management:

• Back-up tapes monitored and stored • Updates installed • Virus and security programmes monitored and updated

Telephone helpdesk service = help with glitches or advice by phone

• This is a first option to solve computer-related problems quickly • The helpdesk technician can also make recommendations for next steps for problems that cannot be resolved over the phone.

The company expects to begin offering these services in October when staff are appointed.
